About:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

GeekPlay is a demo utility for Half-Life. It lets you browse and watch
client recorded (or HLTV recored) demos with ease. With a GUI you will
be able to see the information about the demo before playing it, such
as an image of the map and playernames. GeekPlay also offers
customization to suit your needs with commandline options, has special
features such as a mini filebrowser, automatic resolution changer,
teamsay stripper, playback speed changer and playback support for old
demos. GeekPlay works with all Half-Life mods that uses the standard
demo protocol.

GeekPlay was coded in C/C++ using the Windows API. No class libraries
such as MFC were used.

Features:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

* Automatically detects and reads in the resolution the demos are
recorded in (to fix the Half-Life playback resolution bug). At
launch it changes the viewers resolution to the resolution of the
demo. After the playback is finished (or the user stops the
application) the original resolution used, is set.
Note: It does not change the resolution of HLTV demos.

* It detects:
  - Half-Life version of the demo.
  - Demo Type.
  - Demo Version.
  - Network Version.
  - Map used in the demo.
  - Mod the demo is recorded in.
  - User resolution.
  - Demo resolution.
  - HLTV recording.

* Displays the names of the players that are in the demo.

* Ability to watch old demos. Half-Life 1.1.0.4-1.1.0.9 (Counter-Strike 1.0-1.4).

* Resolution converter, you can now convert the resolution of a demo
and store it to disk (very useful for people creating movies from
  demo-files).

* Has the ability to remove all teamsays (say_team) from a demo (to
hide tactics and other unnecessary comments).

* Comes with a small filebrowser for easier demo navigation.

* Displays a bitmap of the map used (if the image file exists).
Note: Maps can be added manually.

* Adds the ability to change the playback speed of the demo.

* Adds the ability to use a customized command line.

* Works with all Half-Life mods that uses the standard demo protocol.

Installation:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Full
----

1. Unzip the files to a dir of your choice (Note: NOT to your
   Half-Life/CounterStrike dir).
2. Double-click the .exe file.
3. Click browse (the bottom one) and locate your hl.exe or cstrike.exe
4. If you want a customized commandline add that in the Command Line
   Options box.
5. If you want to use a different playback speed, add that in the
Demospeed box. Default is 1. For faster playback use 1.5, for
slower use 0.5 or any other value you desire (Note: Use points not
   decimals).
4. Click save.

Upgrade
-------

1. Unzip the files to your old dir and overwrite the files. Make sure
that you unzip all subdirs to their current paths. Its important
that you unzip the files to your old dir, otherwise you will
have cross references and GeekPlay won't always find the necessary
   files needed.

2. Make sure that the latest version number is displayed on the GUI when
   you start GeekPlay.

Now your GeekPlay is installed.

Usage:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

There are two different ways to view demos with GeekPlay.

Method one:
1. Launch the application by double-clicking geekplay.exe.
2. Click browse (the upper one) and locate a demo of your choice.
3. Click Play!

Method two:
1. Double-click a demofile (.dem extension).
2. Click Play!

Troubleshooting:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. When I try to play old demos GeekPlay says "Could not backup
HL.dat" or "Could not copy HL.dat".

A. Make sure that you have 1. A full path to hl.exe/cstrike.exe in
GeekPlay and that you have saved your settings. Also make sure
that when you upgraded you unzipped all subdirs, and that you
unzipped all files to the original dir where you installed
GeekPlay, you can find the path in your registry. REGEDIT.EXE
   Key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\geekplay\shell\open\command

Q. I now can't connect to the CS server I play on. It tells me my
client.dll differs from the server's. This happened after I tried
to open an old demo and it told me that it couldn't back up some
   kind of .DAT file.

A. Make sure you have 3.0.1 or later version of GeelPlay and open
and play a new demo. Then try to connect to the server again.

Q. I receive "Could not copy demo-file".

A. Delete geekplay.dem in your \modname\ dir (ie \cstrike\).
